Determining the Attitude of Medical Students (interns and residents) towards the Course of Medical Ethics at AJA University of Medical Sciences

Abstract:

Introduction:Ethics is considered as an integral part of medical science and its recommendations are to guide professional behaviors and practices.The purpose of this study was to obtain the attitudes of medical students (interns and residents) towards the course of medical ethics. Methods:This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study was performed on 104 students of AJA University of Medical Sciences (intern and residents) as randomly available in 2016. In order to evaluate students' attitudes, two written questionnaires consisting of demographic questions and 36 questions about attitude and practice were prepared and distributed among medical students. Data were analyzed using SPSS-20 software and Mann-Whitney test. Results:The results showed the two groups of resident and intern in terms of teaching method, the best way to assess student knowledge, the appropriateness of the content, the need to modify and update the presented materials, covering the patient-physician relationship in medical ethics, diagnosing ethical problems, exposure With moral problems and the ability to make the right decision, the ability to defend one's decision, how to make informed decisions, how to act when a patient is mentally incompetent, the ability to convey bad news, and the method of teaching medical ethics, there was a statistically significant difference at the level of 1 percent. Conclusion:According to the research findings, both interns and residents emphasized the appropriateness of the content, the need to modify and update the content, cover patient-physician relationships and teach medical ethics both cross-sectionally and alongside the clinical courses of medical students.
